- HARD STONE is easy to care for and difficult to damage except through massive force. Hard stones are acid resistant to stains from wine, sparkling wine, fruit juice, or mineral water and so are suited best for tables that get heavy use, such as dining room or coffee tables. Granite, gneiss, quartzite, gabbro, and norite belong to the hard stone family.
- SOFT STONE is comparable to glass in its hardness. Marble, limestone, travertine, sandstone, onyx, and slate belong to the soft stone family. Soft stones are perfect for side tables and coffee tables. These surfaces may scratch or stain from acids, which is why we encourage you to use table mats with soft stone tables.
